We are currently hiring:

POSITION:  Underground Studio Interpreter

DEPARTMENT: Exhibitions & Program Development  

REPORTS TO: Manager of Visitor Experience and Teacher in Residence

HOURS: 37.5 hours/week

DURATION: 10 weeks (June 26 – September 1)

POSITION TYPE: A two month contract position for a student between the ages of 16 and 30. The candidate must be a full time registered student with the intention to return to school on a full time basis in the fall. This is a full time position and the candidate will work Monday to Friday from 9:00 – 5:00. Onsite training will be provided.

POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Underground Studio MakerSpace is looking for interested candidates to support the new STEAM based programming being offered at THEMUSEUM to youth aged 6-17. The candidate will be responsible for facilitating the mandate of the Underground Studio – to increase STEAM-based knowledge across Waterloo Region. The candidate will deliver educational and camp programs designed to teach technical skills such as 3D modeling, woodworking and soldering in an open and inclusive environment that inspires the development of soft skills such as leadership, confidence and grit. The candidate will also assist with the delivery of daily programming as well as maintaining a safe and clean space.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

-       Deliver scripted maker and camp programming to youth audiences in an engaging and informative fashion.

-       Educate visitors on new and emerging technological trends that embody Maker culture – learning by doing, failing forward, perseverance, persistence and grit.

-       Assist the Underground Studio team with the development of new program streams and material preparation.

-       Communicate with audiences and foster an open, collaborative environment.

-       Ensure the Underground Studio space is cleaned and maintained to Health and Safety standards.

QUALIFICATIONS:

-       A demonstrated interest in Maker culture.

-       Basic to intermediate electronics, woodworking, and/or programming skills.

-       An educational and/or professional background in Science, Technology, Arts or Engineering.

-       Experience working with students.

-       Excellent oral communication skills, specifically with large audiences.

-       A willingness to learn new and emerging technologies.

-       First Aid certification an asset.

POSITION:  Membership Coordinator

DEPARTMENT: Development

REPORTS TO: Senior Manager, Development & Donor Relations and Sales & Booking Coordinator

HOURS: 37.5 hours/week

DURATION: 20 weeks

POSITION TYPE: Career Focus Intern position with flexible hours including some evenings and weekends as scheduled per museum events.

DESCRIPTION OF THE POSITION: This team member will be responsible for providing our most invested visitors with an excellent experience as they enter THEMUSEUM and providing them with information on memberships and programs. Through conversation, they will encourage visitors to upgrade their general admission ticket to a membership or register for programs such as camps, workshops, events, MakerSpace programming, etc. Strategic selling will be a key component of the roll, to increase sales and promote programs based on the clientele.

Candidates must:

·         Be a recent graduate who has graduated from college or university in the last 24 months

·         Not have another full-time job

·         Not have previously participated in or been paid under any other Career Focus program funded by the Government of Canada

OBJECTIVES:

Visitor Experience

·         Greet members, visitors and guests as they enter THEMUSEUM

·         Provide information on and process sales of THEMUSEUM Memberships, Day Camps & The Underground Studio MakerSpace programs

·         Encourage visitors to upgrade to an annual membership through strategic conversation

·         Public-facing role, expected to be able to converse and answer questions about the programs, memberships, exhibitions and displays, and daily offerings

·         Maintain current knowledge about educational programs, exhibits, membership, special events, and other visitor related information

·         Listen to customer complaints and ideas, take necessary action and forward all comments and concerns to appropriate staff

Membership

·         Responsible for all communications with members

·         Ideally have email interaction with all members at least once a month

·         Follow up with all new members within a day

·         With guidance from the senior staff create and improve membership packages and feedback surveys

·         With guidance from senior staff, create and deliver marketing materials to members and visitors

·         Improve the amount of memberships by 10% though sales techniques and communications

Special Events – Off Site

·         Promote THEMUSEUM and upcoming events/exhibits and membership to the public

·         Assist with safe set up, clean up and take down of special events equipment and supplies

·         Provide assistance to the Special Events staff as required for event preparation

Administration/Reporting

·         Adhere to and maintain all THEMUSEUM’s Policies and Procedures as they pertain to the total job responsibility at all times.

·         Support and assist in “Special Projects” as assigned.

·         Assist with writing copy for marketing documents (website content, monthly calendar, etc.)

·         Participate in all required departmental meetings.

·         Communicate all relevant information regarding THEMUSEUM procedures, expectations and services effectively with co-workers, visitors, public and peers as required.

·         Follow all of THEMUSEUM’s Safety Policies and adhere to the Occupational Health and Safety Act; submit Incident/Accident Reports when required.

·         Information Management and Data analysis

·         Create reports and run analytics on information on members to improve member experience

QUALIFICATIONS:

·         Excellent organizational, time management, customer service, and verbal and written communication skills

·         Fast learner; able to quickly learn specific information regarding the memberships and programs and in turn effectively communicate it to visitors, members or guests

·         Experience in sales and/or customer service; Cash handling experience a strong asset

·         Work well independently, but also be a strong team player

·         Must have the ability to work within set guidelines, policies and procedures
