Meet Our Staff

Adam Vuylsteke

Role: Interpreter

What’s your favourite part about working at THEMUSEUM?
We’re doing it different. It’s fantastic to be part of a team that’s pushing the boundaries and encouraging exploration, interaction and discovery. As one of the many teachers on staff, I love delivering programming and facilitating experiences designed to spark creative thinking and inspired play for children of all ages.

If you were enrolled at Hogwarts, would you say the name “Voldemort”?
Not saying “You-Know-Who’s” name generally implies a level of fear or respect for him. I’d likely take the smug Harry and Dumbledore approach, openly saying Voldemort and directly addressing him as Tom… or to be safe in the chance of a Taboo, “Chief Death Eater."

“To boldly go where no man has gone before” or “A long time ago in a galaxy far far away”?
Lightsabers, Han Solo, Boba Fett, Billy Dee Williams… Midi-Chlorians. May the Force be with you!

Andrea Jimenez

Role: Manager of Visitor Experience

If you were given 24 hours to live, what would be your goal(s) for the day?
Have a date with Mathew McConaughey

If I had a million dollars…
Save for my kids’ education, pay the house, go for a trip with my whole family

Ashley Miller

Role: Camp Program Coordinator

If you were a Looney Toon character, which one would you be and why?
Wile E. Coyote, because if at first you don't succeed, try and try again.

If you were enrolled at Hogwarts, would you say the name “Voldemort”?
No, but I was also terrified of that 'Bloody Mary' urban legend when I was a kid. Saying an evil name is not to be taken lightly.

You’re representative of the human race meeting an alien for the first time. What would you say?
That must have been quite the journey. How are you doing for temperature? The air's alright for you? I can probably turn the heat down.

Brando Von Dino

Role: Facilities/Technician

If I could go back in time, I would...
Meet Marty Mc Fly!

My nightmare situation is...
not having the freedom to live.

What book/poem/film/show/photo/etc. best describes you?
Jungle Book and 80s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Brent Wettlaufer

Role: Makerspace Coordinator

What's your favourite part about working at THEMUSEUM?
The smile on someone's face after they've shared in a new experience with us.

If you had to live out the life of a fictional character (literature, TV, film, etc.), who would it be and why?
Stephen Daedalus from James Joyce's A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man and Ulysses. Seeing Dublin at the turn of the 20th century would be amazing, not to mention the hilarious shenanigans and tomfoolery he finds himself in throughout each novel.

If you were a villain in a James Bond film, what would your lair look like?
Towering Art Deco, with huge columns of monolithic figures with fire coming out of their eyes and vast reflecting pools running through massive marble halls. Bond will win in the end anyway, so might as well go out in style.

Cassy Wiens

Role: Interpreter

What is your favorite sport and why?
Hockey because it is a fast paced game and where I  met some of my closest friends.

If you had to live out the life of a fictional character, who would it be and why?
Claudia from Warehouse 13 because she is an intelligent female character (with attitude) that gets to save the world.

Christi Hudson

Role: Interpreter

Would you rather win an Oscar, Emmy, Grammy, or Tony award?
I would rather win an Oscar than an Emmy, Tony, or Grammy, and I prefer it to be for something like best production design, cinematography, costume design or visual effects.

If you could have any pet in the world, what would it be?
If I could have any pet in the world, provided it wouldn't eat me, I would like a pet tiger.

Courts

Role: Graphic Designer or "filler of the M's"

...is my favourite Beatles song.
Here Comes the Sun is my favorite Beatles song. My dad gave me the Abbey Road album when I was about ten years old and my brother and I played it in the mornings to help us get ready for school. it is a song about new beginnings, about waking up refreshed and starting a new day and about snow melting and spring beginning again. One can't help but hear it and smile.

If I could have any pet in the world, it would be...
...a snow leopard kitten. It would just stay a cute and cuddly kitten for its whole life.

Daniel MacPherson

Role: keeping the place running on Weekends, installation of exhibits, and taking care of all Audio/Visual needs for the myriad of events which take place in the unique building.

If I had a million dollars...
I wouldn't so much be rich but I would definitely be comfortable in this economy.  It would be a good jumping off point.

...is my favourite Beatles song.
Every Little Thing.  It's an odd song, and has some wicked tympani.

David Marskell

Role: I work here

What’s your favourite part about working at THEMUSEUM?
Watching the children as we awe, inspire and enlighten them AND watching the staff grow!

If you were given 24 hours to live, what would be your goal(s) for the day?
Stay awake past 10pm.

Deanna Ferguson

Role: Interpreter

If you had to live out the life of a fictional character (literature, TV, film, etc.), who would it be and why?
It would be hard to choose between Hermione Granger or a female version of Indiana Jones. They are both smart, strong, and who wouldn't want to save the world a few times?

If I could have any pet in the world, it would be...
A tiger! But it would have to stay the size of a small cub forever.

Delaney Rombough

Role: Interpreter

What’s your favourite bad TV show?
Glee!

If I was representing the human race in a meeting with aliens, the first thing I would say is...
"hi"

If I could live the lift of any fictional character, it would be...
Amy Pond from Doctor Who because she gets to travel and see all kinds of amazing worlds around the universe, which seems pretty fun and pretty cool.

Diana Milanovic

Role: Senior Manager of Strategic Initiatives & Special Projects

If you were a villain in a James Bond film, what would your lair look like?
I would plot James’ demise in an old Eastern European wine grotto in Dubrovnik, Croatia. Mysterious, secluded, and down-right seductive!

Would you describe your clothing as fashion forward or functional?
Fashion forward is a stretch, but I am definitely fashion conscious. I am interested in how trends start, and what clothes say about our lifestyle. Bill Cunningham’s “On The Street” video series from the New York Times is the best. Watch him roam various cities for the latest use of fashion by everyday people.

Isaac Winters

Role: Dinosaur Actor

You're a representative for the human race meeting an alien for the first time. What would you say?
If I was representing the human race meeting an alien for the first time, I would say, "Is it just me or does it smell like updog?"

Secret Confession:
I sing Folsom Prison Blues by Johnny Cash in the Shower and it makes me feel tough.

This Simpson’s character best represents me:
The character Disco Stu from The Simpsons best represents me because he's always up for a good time

Jacob Latimer

Role: Visitor Services Attendee/Interpreter

What’s your favourite part about working at THEMUSEUM?
It's definitely getting to experience visitors coming here on their own time to learn and experience new things. After being in school for so long, learning became something that was not as fun as it used to be because the element of curiosity had faded. Seeing that curiosity and inspiration to learn once again in our visitors is beyond reinvigorating for me.

If I could go back in time, I would...
Visit ancient Imperial Rome. It would be incredible to see the heart of the Roman Empire and The Eternal City in its prime. I would also probably accidentally step on a butterfly or something and ruin human history. It's give and take I guess.

Secret Confession:
I sometimes put the empty milk carton back in the refrigerator. It's a mad, lawless world out here.

Jamie Simons

Role: Interpreter

This Simpson’s character best represents me:
Lisa, because my friends tell me I’m a goody-two shoes (and I can’t tell a good joke).

If I could go back in time, I would ...
... Visit Renaissance Italy and get Leonardo Da Vinci to mentor me in observational drawing.  Or maybe make him tell me what the Mona Lisa’s smiling at… or to choose a different wall for The Last Supper, so that we could know today what he intended for it.

In case of a Zombie Apocalypse, my weapon of choice would be ...
... A wooden plank – they’re good for hitting everything!

Karlee Slattery

Role: Digital Media Coordinator

...is my favourite Beatles song.
Rocky Raccoon. It was the song that sparked my love/obsession with The Beatles in grade four, leading to my Beatles explorations in NYC, London & Liverpool. (Check out The Beatles Story museum in Liverpool!)

What’s your favourite part about working at THEMUSEUM?
Getting to experience and live-tweet the many events held by/at THEMUSEUM. There are so many diverse events offering the opportunity to meet new people. You never know what might happen- especially during Studio 54!

If I could have any pet in the world, it would be…
a house hippo!

Katelynn Dietrich

Role: Public Program Coordinator

Would you rather win an Oscar, Emmy, Grammy, or Tony award? Why?
I don’t want to sound greedy but if I was talented enough to win any of these awards, I would want to win them all. I think the term is ‘EGOT’ (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony). Only twelve people have ever won all four … not even Meryl has achieved that.

______   is my favourite Beatles song.
For No One and I’ll Follow the Sun are my favourite Beatles songs. It was really hard to even narrow it down to two songs because I grew up in a Beatles-obsessed family.

Katharine Albrecht

Role: Accounting Manager

“To boldly go where no man has gone before” or “A long time ago in a galaxy far far away”?
Most definitely “To boldly go where no one has gone before”!  My claim of watching all Star Trek movies in one sitting was dashed when they released the tenth … I still haven’t had the opportunity to redo the marathon unfortunately …

My most embarrassing moment is…
...wearing the same outfit as my calculus teacher one day back in high school.

Would you describe your clothing as fashion forward or functional?
Functional – every now and then my clothing is fashionable, but only by accident.

Kevin Dubeau

Role: Interpreter

If I could have any pet in the world, it would be…
A tiger, or definitely some kind of jungle cat, just so long as it promises not to eat me.

In case of a Zombie Apocalypse, my weapon of choice would be...
Anything that would allow me to keep my distance: probably not a good idea to get any of that stuff on you! And yes that would include my feet as I may decide to just run away if I see one.

“To boldly go where no man has gone before” or “A long time ago in a galaxy far far away”?
No question: “A long time ago in a galaxy far far away.” They have lightsabers! Which I am sure would also make a great Zombie Apocalypse weapon…

Kim

Role: As my business card says, I AM Visitor Services, although that could be a typo.

If you were enrolled at Hogwarts, would you say the name "Voldermort"?
Ask me again later, I‘m still getting over Fred’s death.

"To boldly go where no man has gone before" or "A long time ago in a galaxy far far away"?
A long time ago in a galaxy far far away I boldly went where no man has gone before.  That¹s like asking me to pick between getting to wear my Star Trek Next Generation onesie every Tuesday or decorating my Christmas tree like R2D2 every year! Not a fair question.

Laura Jimenez

Role: Interpreter

If you were enrolled at Hogwarts, would you say the name “Voldermort”?
Do not misspell the Dark Lord’s name.

If you give a mouse a cookie…
...You have to give him a glass of milk!

If you were a Looney Toon character, which one would you be and why?
I would definitely be Bugs Bunny because he always seems to have the perfect solution to any situation. He also has an unlimited supply of carrots.

Lizz DiCesare

Role: Marketing and Communications Coordinator

If I could have any pet in the world it would be...
... a Spinosaurus!

If I could go back in time, I would...
... meet Louis XIV.

Matt Pedersen

Role: Interpreter

“To boldly go where no man has gone before” or “A long time ago in a galaxy far far away”?
A long long time ago, in a galaxy far far away! Despite the ongoing mission of the startship enterprise to explore new worlds I feel a greater sense of adventure in Star Wars.

If I had a million dollars…
I’d buy you a Monkey (Haven’t you always wanted a Monkey!) [Ed Note: you really need to raise that second syllable of "monkey" to a high pitched "eee!"]

My nightmare situation is _________________
DROWNING! I cannot envision a more panicked situation. And as a Swim Coach and former Varsity Swimmer, how embarrassing a death would that be?!

Matthew Close

Role: Camp Leader

If you were enrolled at Hogwarts, would you say the name “Voldemort”?
As someone wiser than I once said, “fear of a name only increases fear of the thing itself.” Plus, there’s only one bad guy whose name you shouldn’t say…and he does not share power.

The “Abbey Road Medley” is my favourite Beatles song. Is that allowed?

“To boldly go where no man has gone before” or “A long time ago in a galaxy far far away”?
In a post J.J. Abrams world… we no longer have to choose.

Meaghan Hawkins a.k.a MEG HAWK

Role: Director of Sales & Strategic Initiatives

What's your favourite part about working at THEMUSEUM?
I love being a part of such a creative team, and seeing ideas and dreams we have on paper become world-class exhibits and fabulous special events that the community gets to experience.

If I had a million dollars...
I’d be rich!

Would you rather win an Oscar, Emmy, Grammy, or Tony award?
Oscar

Megan Pople

Role: Interpreter

What’s your favourite holiday and why?
My favourite holiday is Christmas because it's the most wonderful time of the year!

______ is my favourite Beatles song.
Love Me Do is my favourite Beatles song. It was the very first song I learned how to play on guitar.

If I could have any pet in the world, it would be…
...Definitely a Wallaby. They're too cute!

Robyn Cheng

Role: Partnerships and Special Events Coordinator

“To boldly go where no man has gone before” or “A long time ago in a galaxy far far away”?
“A long time ago in a galaxy far far away”!

If you had to live out the life of a fictional character (literature, TV, film, etc.), who would it be and why?
I would probably be Hermione Granger from Harry Potter. She is smart, funny, crazy talented, but most importantly CAN DO MAGIC!

If I could have any pet in the world, it would be?
I would have a PUG!! Their little squishy faces are the cutest thing in the world! I even think their snorting is adorable! I already have the names of my first 4 pugs picked out: Winston, Ronald, Frasier and Agnes – they deserve distinguished names!

Sara Hutchings

Role: Interpreter

If you could have any pet in the world, what would it be?
If I could have any pet I would want a Red Panda. They are smaller than regular pandas and they are just super cute.

What’s your favourite holiday and why?
My favourite holiday would have to be Christmas, mainly because I'm a big kid at heart but also because I love having all my family together.

Sarah Young

Role: Interpreter

If you were enrolled at Hogwarts, would you say the name “Voldermort”?
Yes, we’d probably be pretty good pals. I’m a Slytherin, after all.

If you had to live out the life of a fictional character (literature, TV, film, etc.), who would it be and why?
Probably Leslie Knope because she loves dogs and I love dogs. Or Piper Chapman because she gets up to some wild shenanigans!

Would you rather win an Oscar, Emmy, Grammy, or Tony award? Why?
A Tony definitely! Because that would mean Fight Club the Musical would no longer be a fantasy of mine.

Tasin (Taz) Tucker

Role: Interpreter

If I could have any pet in the world it would be...
a black panther as I admire their grace, fluidity, predetorial instincts and ability to adapt to the environment. This is of course if somehow we manage to make panthers people friendly!

In case of a zombie apocalypse, my weapon of choice would be...
Maverick the Dinosaur. RARRRRR!!

I could not live without...
my two daughters Piper and Phoebe (who have fur, and are the bestest Schnauzer mixes in the world), tea, and books!
