THEMUSEUM volunteers contribute to every aspect and activity that happens within our space. As a volunteer, you will have the opportunity to promote and support THEMUSEUM’s vision to “awe, inspire and enlighten” by creating a fun and interactive environment for visitors.

Volunteer Gallery Attendant

Position Name: Volunteer Gallery Attendant
Time Commitment: 6 hours per week, Wednesday – Friday or weekends. Must be available for the Duration of the Exhibition January 25 – May 13, 2018.
NOTE: A current Police Background Check is required.

Exhibit Description:
INTERACTION is a multi-modal art exhibition, and will showcase works by Canadian artists and researchers, who work within the context of new media, immersion, games, and interactivity. In our space we will be showcasing 10 installations created by artists primarily living in Canada (Quebec, Ontario, and Manitoba). The installations will include physical objects for active engagement, immersive environments, and Virtual Reality experiences.

INTERACTION is being co-curated by Jane Tingley, artist, curator, and Assistant Professor at the University of Waterloo (in addition to being part of THEMUSEUM Board of Directors) and Alain Thibault, Artistic Director of the Elektra Festival in Montreal, QC.

Volunteer Responsibilities:

  • Work alongside Interpreters (THEMUSEUM floor-staff) and other volunteers to provide excellent customer/ visitor-service and an enriching learning experience.
  • Public-facing role, expected to be able to converse and answer questions about the exhibits, displays and activity stations.

Qualifications:

  • Applicant must be 18 or older
  • Able to make a commitment of at least one three-hour shift every week for four months including March Break and holidays
  • Experience working with children is essential
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Able to work well as part of a team under the direction and supervision of a manager.

Visitor Services Attendant

POSITION: Visitor Services Assistant
DEPARTMENT: Visitor Services
REPORTS TO: Visitor Services Coordinator
MANDATE: THEMUSEM is looking for an enthusiastic, customer service oriented individual to fill the role of Visitor Services Assistant.
Time Commitment: 3-6 hours per week, weekday evenings, weekends, holidays, with possibility of weekday shifts.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

Visitor Services Support

  • Providing excellent customer service while assisting visitors in person, by phone and e-mail.
  • Answering calls and operating the telephone switchboard.
  • Assist with the sale of merchandise, memberships, camps, special events, etc.
  • General housekeeping of Visitor Services, THEMUSEUM gift shop and surrounding areas.

Administration/Reporting

  • Maintaining and updating client databases, including memberships, camp attendees, and so on.
  • Assist with special projects as assigned.

Memberships

  • Upselling memberships by informing all visitors of our membership program.
  • Maintain and update client database as per company standards.

Special Events

  • Assist with safe set up and take down of special events equipment and supplies.
  • Provide assistance to the special events staff as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Previous experience cash handling required.
  • Customer service experience, particularly in a reception desk setting an asset.

Training:

  • Orientation to the organization and position will be provided.

Membership Attendant

Department: Membership
Report to: Sales & Booking Coordinator
Description of the Position: This volunteer will be responsible for greeting visitors and members as they enter THEMUSUEM and providing them with information on Memberships and programs. Through conversation, the volunteer will encourage visitors to upgrade their general admission ticket to a Membership or register for programs such as camps, workshops, events, MakerSpace programming, etc.
Time Commitment: 2-6 hours per week, weekday evenings, weekends, holidays, with possibility of weekday shifts.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Greet members, visitors and guests as they enter THEMUSEUM
  • Provide information on THEMUSEUM Memberships, Day Camps & The Underground Studio MakerSpace programs
  • Encourage visitors to upgrade to an annual membership through strategic conversation
  • Public-facing role, expected to be able to converse and answer questions about the programs, memberships, exhibitions and displays, and daily offerings

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Proactive, driven, a great communicator
  • Demonstrated ease of speaking and interacting with the public
  • Fast learner; able to quickly learn specific information regarding the Memberships and programs and in turn effectively communicate it to visitors, members or guests
  • Experience in sales and/or customer service a strong asset

Training:

  • Orientation to the organization and position will be provided
