11AM – Exhibition Exploration
11:15AM – Opening Remarks
11:30AM – Storytelling Activation: Stories are the Original Time Travellers with artists Nyle Miigizi Johnston & Joel Richardson
As members of the Time Travellers Collective, we recognize and honour the significant role that storytelling plays in our lives. Stories teach us about the past and provide a means for us to imagine the future, and to provide a vision for how to journey to a better one. Stories are the original time travellers, which is why so many of them have been carried across generations and diverse cultures.
We invite people to hear the Collective’s own origin story, which starts with two artists (one Indigenous, one Settler) sharing their story as an act of understanding and reconciliation. We will introduce visitors to the stories that have inspired and shaped the mission of Commander George Nadjiwon and Captain Jimmy Swann, as they travel across the centuries in an attempt to prevent what seems to be an inevitable dystopian future.
We believe that sharing stories activates strong powers that can lead us to more fruitful and enlightening ways of thinking about and understanding the world around us, how we got here, and where we are going.
After the activation, refreshments will be served during exhibition exploration.
