On Now at Berlin Tower ARTSPACE at Kitchener City Hall
From the moment it opened its doors in 1925, Goudies Department Store stood at the heart of the Kitchener community. For over six decades, it was a one-stop shop for everything from prom night dresses to new apartment furnishings. Generations of residents knew—if you needed it, you’d find it at Goudies.
Goudies wasn’t just a store—it was an experience. With elegant elevators, fashionable displays and full-floor departments, one could plan an entire day around a visit. During the holidays, its legendary Santa Claus parades and festive window displays made it a seasonal destination for families across the region.
For many, Goudies offered more than just goods—it offered glamour, tradition and a sense of pride in local enterprise.
Today, THEMUSEUM is proud to call the front half of the former Goudies building home. As we mark the 100th anniversary of this iconic institution, we are pleased to share a selection of photographs and artifacts that celebrate the store’s lasting legacy in downtown Kitchener. From dazzling displays, delectable eats and heartfelt holiday magic, Goudies was more than just a shop – it was the heart of downtown. Explore the stories, photos & artifacts that made it unforgettable the next time you’re at City Hall!
