Model Citizens

Beginning October 2017, THEMUSEUM will present Model Citizens featuring two disparate yet playfully connected photography-based exhibitions that provoke dialogue about our connections with technology, digital media and ultimately each other.

Whose Reality Is It?

THEMUSEUM is proud to present Whose Reality Is It?, an exhibition of photographs by Joan Sanger, that allows us to contemplate the exciting lifestyles modelled by storefront mannequins, in stark contrast to the technologically-absorbed lives many of us now lead.

Mann: A Short Film by Kyle Sawyer – Screening and Q&A

A mannequin lives alone in a beige apartment in a gated community of identical beige apartments. Each day of his repetitive life he must avoid a set of stairs on his way to work with a great sigh. He is not blessed with human mobility. He cannot eat, he cannot run, he cannot climb stairs. At a nondescript Nashville clothing store, it’s clear he’s fallen for his spritely coworker, and incidentally his closest human contact, but the connection is not mutual, it cannot be because he can never let her know. He comes to this realization and silently searches for his own place and purpose in the scorched American south.

Check Out Life Asks™

Life Asks™ is a daily evolving digital installation and a part of the Model Citizens exhibition, which is on display at THEMUSEUM from October 2017 to January 2018 along side Whose Reality Is It? and Awkward Family Photos

Life Asks™ purpose is to engage community members, students, tech innovators, and local leaders in a community-generated immersive conversation about life as we live it and experience it. Through video interviews, online interactions and real life conversations, Life Asks™ showcases stories of people who have taken the Life Asks™ Challenge sharing their life experiences and why they matter.

Life Asks™ purposeful venture is to ask more than 1,000,000 people around the world: “What’s life for you as you live it and experience it?”  This, they hope, will surface the common threads of our human experiences within our differences.
