FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE : THEMUSEUM ANNOUNCES GIFT TO COMMUNITY OF FREE AND DISCOUNTED ADMISSION FOR FINAL DAYS OF THE ROLLING STONES | UNZIPPED

THEMUSEUM set to balance its books two years in a row with largest surplus in short nineteen year history

Kitchener, ON | April 12, 2022 THEMUSEUM in Kitchener, Ontario announced FREE and reduced admission today for the final six days of The Rolling Stones | UNZIPPED to ensure greater access for all as the exhibition comes to an end. Effective Wednesday April 13, admission for visitors 18 years and under will be FREE and only $19.99 for everyone else to experience UNZIPPED — until 6:00pm on April 18, when UNZIPPED closes at THEMUSEUM.

“This is a thank you to the community on behalf of THEMUSEUM and all of our proud sponsors, supporters, volunteers and entire team for helping make this the incredible success it has been for the exhibition’s Canadian debut,” said David Marskell, CEO of THEMUSEUM. “Without the support of the Region of Waterloo, local sponsors and the community, bringing UNZIPPED to THEMUSEUM for a successful run would not have been possible. Our goal for the next six days is to make UNZIPPED as accessible as possible for all to enjoy in the magic that The Rolling Stones and their 60 year history is.”

“There is so much to celebrate as we prepare to say goodbye to UNZIPPED in Waterloo Region,” said Frank Boutzis, President of the Board of Directors of THEMUSEUM. “Despite postponements, reduced capacity and closures due to COVID, we have met our financial targets and predict a back to back surplus, our second in two years, and want to invite our community to share in this celebration with us.”

UNZIPPED opened at THEMUSEUM in late November 2021 following engagements in major centres including London, New York, Sydney and Tokyo before being secured by THEMUSEUM — providing a once in a lifetime opportunity for Canadian fans and visitors. Recently, THEMUSEUM announced an extended run of the exhibition due to the ongoing demand and successful negotiations with The Rolling Stones management.

Despite the many roadblocks, closures and restrictions brought on by COVID-19, UNZIPPED at THEMUSEUM has successfully achieved many milestones. From surpassing its budget, to attracting over 42% of visitors from beyond Waterloo Region and positively impacting local tourism, hospitality and arts and cultural sectors, UNZIPPED has fittingly allowed THEMUSEUM to uphold its vision to ‘awe, inspire, and enlighten.’

“We have done our best to ensure the UNZIPPED experience goes beyond celebrating the life and times of The Rolling Stones,” said Marskell. “Together for the last four months we have celebrated the history of rock music and its intersection with other aspects of our lives, as we experience them today. It is my hope that we have helped the tens of thousands of visitors to UNZIPPED and our Region relive history in an unforgettable, immersive, once-in-a-lifetime way.”

“We also wish to thank all of the Festival partners who helped bring UNZIPPED to life across the Region. The Fashion History Museum, Princess Cinemas and Kitchener Musical Society Band along with numerous bars, hotels and restaurants who took advantage of the Year of the Rolling Stones.”

The final block of tickets to visit UNZIPPED, now at a discounted rate of $19.99, are available for purchase at unzippedkw.ca until April 18. Those 18 and under who wish to attend for FREE must also secure a ticket at THEMUSEUM and provide government issued proof of age at the door. As a not-for-profit, every ticket sold is viewed as a donation to THEMUSEUM, allowing it to continue securing world-class exhibitions like UNZIPPED.

When securing tickets online all administration fees will be donated to support the rebuilding of museums in the Ukraine.

Duke Street Parking garage with direct access to THEMUSEUM from the first level will be FREE Good Friday and Easter Sunday.
