Primary and Junior Programs

The Underground Studio MakerSpace Programs

Students will learn through experimentation, exploration, and by ‘failing’ forward in our one-of-a-kind workshops.

Against The Grain: Woodbots – Woodworking
Curriculum Connection: 
Mathematics: Measurement, Geometry and Spatial Sense 
Calling all tech-loving woodworkers! Learn the proper techniques of using woodworking tools to create a one-of-a-kind wooden robot.

*NEW* Light it Up! – Circuitry and Textiles 
Curriculum Connection: Science and Technology: Understanding Matter and Energy and The Arts: Visual Arts 
Using conductive thread, makers will learn how to sew proper stitches to create a wristband that lights up when worn!

Destination Disassembly – Deconstruction 
Curriculum Connection:
Science and Technology: Understanding Matter and Energy and The Arts: Visual Arts  
Students will learn about the engineering design process to consider a simple challenge by deconstructing found objects using tools and methods provided. They will then be tasked with assembling a unique object that fulfills an imagined function.

Hello, Mr. Robot (Jr.) – Computer Programming (1 – 6)
Curriculum Connection: 
Science and Technology: Understanding Matter and Energy and Mathematics: Number Sense and Numeration, Partnering and Algebra
Makers have the power! Introduce your students to computer programming in this highly engaging and colourful workshop using our Ozobot Robots.

Screen Time – Screen Printing and Textiles
Curriculum Connection: 
The Arts: Visual Arts and Mathematics: Patterning and Algebra, Geometry and Spatial Sense 
Makers will learn the elements and principles of design while creating a unique t-shirt logo by using proper screen printing techniques. 

Thinking with Volumes – 3D Modelling
Curriculum Connection:
The Arts: Visual Arts, Mathematics: Patterning and Algebra, Geometry and Spatial Sense 
Makers will explore the fundamentals of geometry and space while designing a key chain in Tinkercad. Makers will then learn how to safely solder their own ring onto a pre-printed design!
