THEMUSEUM Adds Interactive Sculptural Light Installation to Spring 2019 Refresh of SPECTRUM

Posted on: April 25, 2019 by THEMUSEUM

Kitchener ON –

SPECTRUM is an interactive, shareable, playable and oh-so-Instagram-able exhibition which explores the world of colour at THEMUSEUM in Downtown Kitchener.

Visitors are immersing themselves into the pop culture phenomenon that is SPECTRUM at THEMUSEUM spending hours playing in the colourful rooms. Along with the current collection of vibrant installations, THEMUSEUM is bringing new experiences to the exhibition to keep things exciting and fresh this spring for returning visitors.

As part of this seasonal refresh, artists Amit Kehar and Kanika Gupta, bring A Warm Hug, an interactive sculptural light installation to SPECTRUM, produced in collaboration with Adam Schwartzentruber and Navnith Ravindran. Encouraging playful interactions that inspire connection and promote the universality of warmth and love, A Warm Hug is a gender-neutral sculpture that invites everyone, without discrimination, to give it a hug. The glow that emanates from its core and surroundings is a visible manifestation and reminder of the positive effect we can all have by sharing our affection with those around us.

“Our goal with this piece is to share unconditional love with whoever hugs the sculpture,” explained artist Amit Kehar. “Our hope is that with each warm hug, we can counter the negativity and isolation that is felt in this world.”

Complementing the technology theme of SPECTRUM, A Warm Hug is accessible to everyone, is an immersive, sharable experience and is an interactive artwork that invites visitors of all ages to give it their warmest hug.

In addition to A Warm Hug, THEMUSEUM is also introducing Radiant Colour, an infrared camera projecting playable body-heat images onto a wall with colour. This installation is taking the place of TheGreenEyl’s installation Appeel that ended its run on April 14th.

The new installations give visitors one more reason to experience #ColourTripping for the first time, or make a return visit to their favourite ball pit or digital sandbox in Waterloo Region. A Warm Hug opens at THEMUSEUM as a part of the spring 2019 refresh of SPECTRUM on April 27th.
