THEMUSEUM Receives Award from Coalition of Muslim Women of KW Shares its Stage for Fourth Annual Exhibition

Posted on: September 29, 2020 by THEMUSEUM

Kitchener, ON – THEMUSEUM was both honoured and humbled to be presented with the ‘Friend of CMW’ Award during the Coalition of Muslim Women of KW’s 10th Anniversary Gala and Awards Night. THEMUSEUM has always endeavoured to amplify diverse voices and cultures from within Waterloo Region and working with CMW has helped them to achieve their vision to awe, inspire and enlighten.

David Marskell, CEO of THEMUSEUM said, “It was emotional for me to hear the introduction to our receiving the award for friendship. This award, which I share with our entire organization is their highest award and means so much to both the CMW and THEMUSEUM and we are so grateful to be the recipient.”

Founded by a handful of Muslim women in 2010, Coalition of Muslim Women of KW (CMW) is a federally registered not for profit organization with the mandate to empower Muslim women and girls to be leaders and change makers. CMW provides opportunities for personal and professional growth, and leadership and skills development for Muslim women while addressing issues of racism, discrimination and Islamophobia through advocacy, activism, and bridge building. CMW facilitates Muslim women’s active participation and engagement in civic and democratic life, tirelessly working towards building a society where Muslim women are valued, engaged, empowered and recognized as leaders.

THEMUSEUM is proud to share its stage once again with CMW to host Beauty in Islamic Art. This exhibition features work by Iman Alkarimi, Riyadh Matwq, Haneen Dalla-Ali, Mélika Hashemi, Behnaz Fatemi, Sana Faheemuddin, Atefeh Zarabadi—organized by Ati Zar and the Coalition of Muslim Women of KWBeauty in Islamic Art showcases pieces by Canadian artists for whom their Islamic background is intertwined with their multi-layered cultural identities. The concept of beauty is explored through truth and its expressions beyond stereotypical traditions.

Beauty in Islamic Art can now be viewed at THEMUSEUM in Downtown Kitchener. For more details and fall hours, please visit www.THEMUSEUM.ca.
