Hours and days of operation will be shifting for the summer with THEMUSEUM opened Wednesday – Saturday. Members will enjoy exclusivity for the first hour of each day beginning at 10am. The general public hours will be 11:00am – 3:00pm. All visitors are asked to purchase tickets in advance, online at THEMUSEUM.ca. In addition, visitors will be asked a short series of screening questions upon arrival and will be required to wear a mask during their visit. Guests can bring their own mask, however they will also available for a donation of $2.00 which will go to support our S.T.E.A.M. programs. For a full list of visitor protocols, please visit THEMUSEUM.ca.

THEMUSEUM will begin to open in stages on July 15. In our first stage of re-opening, the third and fourth floor of THEMUSEUM will be open. On July 22, the second-floor permanent displays will open with some limitations. The Atrium and Tot Spot remain closed to the public until further notice to ensure a safe experience.

Admission will be a discounted $7.99 for all visitors. Memberships will be extended at no cost by two months through Labour Day.

SPECTRUM | The Climate Emergency Experience, located in the Shops of Waterloo Town Square will open Wednesday July 22nd with details announced at a later date.

“We are pleased and satisfied at the level of cleaning and safety measures put in place. Our tactile areas will not be accessible to ensure safety for children and their families”… said David Marskell CEO of THEMUSEUM. “We can now return to our narrative and focus on the climate emergency that can have devastating effects beyond what we have all witnessed with COVID 19.”

ALARM | Responding to our Climate Emergency has been tailored to allow an immersive yet hands-off look at the climate emergency through two exhibitions MELTING ICE and Agents for Change | Facing the Anthropocene both at the Kitchener location. MELTING ICE resides in the gallery space on the third level of THEMUSEUM while Agents for Change takes up the entirety of the fourth floor. Absent from ALARM will be EXTINCTION, the amphibians and reptile display as the closeness people would come to the habitats was deemed unsafe. The fourth related exhibition is SPECTRUM which will open July 22nd. Summer Camp registration is also now available at THEMUSEUM.ca.

THEMUSEUM recognizes that immersive exhibitions must be paused for now but still believes there is something to offer for everyone. Visitors of all ages can experience an hour of culture over their lunch; families can comfortably push their little ones in a stroller while digesting two world-class exhibitions at their leisure.

“Amid today’s uncertainty, we believe that our shining a light on climate emergency to be more important than ever and we are proud of the diversity of our exhibitions and the international artists we have attracted.” said Laurel McKellar, Senior Director of Curation and Exhibitions.

While THEMUSEUM is thrilled to welcome back visitors, a genuine effort has been undertaken to ensure health and safety is in place for staff and visitors. Numerous policies for staff and protocols for visitors have been put into place to ensure that the public feels safe and comfortable returning to the downtown arts and culture centre. #ALARMkw will be the only exhibition available to the public at this time. The Atrium, Tot Spot and second-floor interactive displays will remain closed to the public to ensure a safe experience.

THEMUSEUM’s team will continue to awe, inspire & enlighten visitors through this unprecedented time and are ready to welcome visitors back to 10 King St West for more Art & Technology at Play.
