New Festival Showcases Installations at CIGI and Communitech

Kitchener, ONDigital Dynamics 2018 collaborates with local, provincial and national organizations to bring a truly innovative festival to Waterloo Region. The festival kicks off January 26, 2018, with the anchor exhibition INTERACTION, an exploratory view on how Canadian artists and designers engage through interactivity.

“This exhibition has been co-curated by Jane Tingley and Alain Thibault and presents a diverse selection of interactive works ranging from games, net.art and new media artworks,” said David Marskell, CEO, THEMUSEUM. “It truly is world-class; something you would see in New York or London, and its right here in downtown Kitchener.”

INTERACTION will run through to May 13 and showcase fourteen Canadian new media artists and artist groups. Their installations span over 5,000 sq. ft. on the fourth level at THEMUSEUM with two installations featured at Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI) in Waterloo and the other at Communitech in Kitchener. Other partners include Christie Digital, OCAF and the Toronto Star.

“Business entrepreneurs and artists have many similarities, including creating things for others to enjoy,” said Iain Klugman, CEO, Communitech. “It’s exciting to witness both sectors colliding within our community in new, innovative ways.”

“Innovation and developments in technology are fundamentally changing the way we live our lives,” said Rohinton P. Medhora, President, CIGI. “We’re thrilled to help highlight how innovation can shape how we interact with art.”

Digital Dynamics 2018 also includes INTERPLAY, an interactive collection of personal computers and video games and will be augmented with Thinking Through Games in collaboration with Concordia University’s (TAG) Technoculture, Arts and Games and the Games Institute at the University of Waterloo.

Jane Tingley is an artist and Assistant Professor in Hybrid Media in the Department of Fine Arts at the Stratford campus of the University of Waterloo. Jane is also a member of THEMUSEUM Board of Directors.

Alain Thibault is a composer, sound designer and electronic music artist and presently artistic director of Elektra, an international digital arts festival, presented every year in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
