RBC Invests in Arts & Culture Professionals

THEMUSEUM’s Second Annual Alternative Conference Receives $60K Boost

Kitchener, Ontario –

The second annual Alternative Conference for Emerging Arts & Culture Professionals (#AltCon2019) is gaining momentum, thanks to RBC.

RBC announced that as part of their RBC Future Launch program, they are donating $60,000 over a three-year period to THEMUSEUM to support the Annual Alternative Conference. RBC Future launch is a catalyst for change – bringing people together to co-create solutions so young people are better prepared for the future of work. It is an initiative that invests in helping young people gain access and opportunity to the skills, job experience and career networks needed for the future world of work. RBC supported the event last year that attracted 70 people; this latest contribution ensures the accessibility and sustainability of the event.

“RBC Future Launch is our commitment of $500 million over the next 10 years to empower Canadian youth for the jobs of tomorrow. We are dedicating our knowledge, skills and resources to help young people access meaningful employment through work experience, skills development and networking,” said Massimo Iacurti, RBC Regional Vice President, Kitchener Waterloo Perth. “Canada’s job market is changing and it’s taking a toll on young Canadians. We have a responsibility to help prepare young people for the unprecedented economic and technological changes taking place in the world today. Young people are Canada’s future leaders of our country and we are proud to partner with THEMUSEUM to help provide students with the opportunity to build skills and build their networks.”

AltCon was created by emerging arts and culture professionals from across Canada who saw the need for an inexpensive forum where peers could share their concerns, successes and challenges. The inaugural event was held in February 2018.

“AltCon uses stimulating content to empower and equip a bold next-generation of cultural sector professionals by instilling confidence, honing skill sets, and charting a clear path to career goals,” said David Marskell, CEO, THEMUSEUM. Equipped with the tools they need, they will inspire new thinking and blaze new trails in the cultural sector.”

2019 sessions will focus on personal and professional brand building, self-leadership, and self-advocacy skills. Attendees will learn creative ways to engage colleagues and how to best connect with the community to introduce new ideas and experiences.

The conference will run from February 24-26, 2019. Registration for AltCon2019 is now open online at AltCon.ca.

This marks THEMUSEUM’s second substantial donation from a corporate partner in recent months. In July, Cambridge Toyota donated $50,000 to THEMUSEUM’s expansion campaign.
