Kitchener, ON – THEMUSEUM is proud to announce that it’s CEO David Marskell has been chosen as one of two recipients of this year’s Waterloo Award, a civic honour recognizing citizens for “enhancing the quality of life in Waterloo.”
Frank Boutzis, President of THEMUSEUM said, “David is a force of nature. His passion and commitment to our organization and this community are inspiring. Not only has he fought to bring world-class exhibitions to our community, but his unwavering belief in THEMUSEUM, and his vision for arts and culture enabled David and his family to sheppard a $1 million donation to support THEMUSEUM’s mission.”
“David encourages this community to be the best it can be” says former Waterloo Mayor Brenda Halloran, who nominated Marskell. “He generously offers help and support where needed and when asked – he never says no, but always finds a way to say yes and to help. He supports the art scene, he promotes musicians, he helps our non-profits, he provides support to schools, children, families – his reach and love and kindness for this community is well known and he is respected by everyone he works with.”
Marskell is a powerful advocate of arts and culture and has served as a volunteer on numerous Boards. He continues to encourage a unified arts and culture masterplan to help the arts community achieve critical mass. For a decade his many accomplishments through THEMUSEUM have resonated across Canada, and around the world.
Marskell and co-recipient Eric Davis will receive a special pin, created by local artist Aggie Beynon at the award presentation Monday evening at Waterloo Council. As well, their names will be inscribed on a plaque that hangs in council chambers as a lasting tribute to their contributions.
“I am truly honoured and humbled by this recognition and accept it on behalf of my family and THEMUSEUM’s entire team and Board,” says Marskell, adding “Is there a cheque with the award? If so I’d like to donate it to THEMUSEUM.”
A brief ceremony will take place at City Hall, Monday evening, October 28th prior to the Council meeting.
