THEMUSEUM to Open Exhibition in Uptown Waterloo SPECTRUM | The Climate Emergency Experience, One of Four Exhibitions

Kitchener, ON – On January 24th, THEMUSEUM will weigh in on climate change with ALARM | Responding to Our Climate Emergency, featuring three distinct exhibitions at THEMUSEUM. A fourth exhibition, SPECTRUM | The Climate Emergency Experience will open two weeks later at The Shops of Waterloo Town Square in uptown Waterloo. The partnership is a collaboration between the Uptown Waterloo Business Improvement Area (BIA) and THEMUSEUM.

“Climate change is impacting our everyday lives and we all need to learn and do more about it,” shared Tracy Van Kalsbeek, Executive Director of the Uptown Waterloo BIA. “We are pleased to partner with THEMUSEUM, The Shops of Waterloo Town Square and our uptown businesses to help create more awareness about this urgent threat.”

“After a hugely successful one-year run of SPECTRUM #colourtripping, an interactive, immersive, sharable experience that closed this past Sunday, we wanted to be quick in announcing the next edition of SPECTRUM” said David Marskell, CEO of THEMUSEUM. “We are thrilled with the partnership which aligns with our strategic plan and includes the Uptown Waterloo BIA and lead sponsor KPMG.” David went on to thank Kathy King and the entire team at The Shops of Waterloo Town Square for their generous support.

Opening to the public Friday, February 7, SPECTRUM | The Climate Emergency Experience will be the fourth exhibition under the umbrella of ALARM | Responding to Our Climate Emergency. The other three exhibitions, which open January 24th at THEMUSEUM in downtown Kitchener include Agents for Change | Facing the Anthropocene featuring new media installations by ten national and international woman artists; EXTINCTION a travelling exhibition featuring eight habitats of living frogs and MELTING ICE a photographic display by two local photographers who visited the Arctic and
Antarctic bringing back stunning imagery.

The four important exhibitions will run through Labour Day 2020.

THEMUSEUM is launching its first-ever offsite experience, expanding its audience reach and general awareness. SPECTRUM | The Climate Emergency Experience allows visitors to immerse themselves through a series of unique, interactive experiences. It will also echo the original SPECTRUM – also developed by museum staff – while exploring the themes surrounding the state of our climate with a colourful twist. Both SPECTRUM experiences have showcased local and international artists that offer a fresh and experiential take on the signals that are all around us about our climate emergency.

The first block of tickets through the end of February are now available at THEMUSEUM.ca. Those attending SPECTRUM in Waterloo will enjoy reduced admission to the three exhibitions in downtown Kitchener.
