Kitchener, ON –
Coming Fall 2019, THEMUSEUM will delve into the AFTERLIFE with a peek into the world of storytelling, death, séances, darkness, ritual, and folklore. AFTERLIFE | A Séance Experience Featuring The Ghost of Thomas Lacey will explore these often shied away from themes in a way that is meant to challenge and enlighten while plunging you head-first into a series of immersive encounters.
The exhibition will culminate with an intimate séance experience with actual recordings from the 1960s. With the help of The Ghost of Thomas Lacey project, guests will be transported back to the Kitchener home of Otto Smith, to the Spooker Room, where the original séances took place. The project is created by Erin MacIndoe Sproule and Rebecca Swabey from Anthroscope Media in collaboration with Special Collections & Archives, University of Waterloo Library.
AFTERLIFE | A Séance Experience will also feature local award-winning graphic artist Vincent Marcone who uses pseudonym My Pet Skeleton, as well as Mere Phantoms, a Montreal based duo made up of artists Maya Ersan and Jaimie Robson. Also displayed in the exhibition will be Michèle Karch-Ackerman and Canadian mixed media artist Heather Murray.
Through dialogues, workshops, and events, THEMUSEUM hopes to provoke discussion and excitement while educating visitors about a heavy topic in a new and respectful manner. The exhibition will begin with a special opening night Thursday, September 19th.
